Sylvia COLLIEC-JOUAULT
IFREMER
Chercheur en glyco-biotechnologies et ingénierie
Description
Sylvia Colliec-Jouault has an expertise in “Glycobiotechnology and Engineering” and also in bioactive marine polysaccharides. She has shown that marine polysaccharides and their derivatives, whether they are extracted from brown algae (fucoidans) or produced by non-pathogenic marine bacteria from the Ifremer collection (exopolysaccharides: EPS), have original structures and GAG-like properties. Her research team works on the isolation and characterization (targeting) of new marine microorganisms (bacteria, cyanobacteria, etc). The team also studies the culture conditions (fermentation) of microorganisms compatible with the development of biotechnological and pharmaceutical products, and also with a view of ensuring the production of EPS under controlled conditions and their purification. The fine-tuning of polysaccharide extraction and purification procedures from a diverse marine biomass (algae, microalgae, etc) and the transfer of these procedures to a pilot-scale are also within the scope of the laboratory.
