You feel good, you’re fulfilled, you know why you’ve been put on Earth, however fleeting this moment of lucidity. It’s not joy, it’s something else. It’s confidence, but in yourself. It’s quiet and soothing. It’s the inner strength that comes from a sense of honour and of challenge met: it is pride.
Pride, all the more powerful for not being expressed. Pride, respect for oneself and, by extension, for the group you belong to. A moralist would say it’s the only way to tolerate one another.
Pride is important! It’s important to live in a country we are proud of, it’s important to have victories to our credit. To renounce pride is to renounce both wisdom and power. This is why this year's theme is pride.
